Hello. My name is Mrs. Sulecki and I teach music at Gearing Elementary, Pine River Elementary and St Clair Middle School. I have been teaching in East China for 30 years. My music philosophy is to give children an enriched experience of singing, listening, playing instruments, and moving to music to enhance their ability to think 'outside the box'. Also, and maybe most importantly, to explore and learn an outlet of self expression for a healthier mind and creative self.
There are countless studies of all the benefits music has on the brain. When children study music , they are actually exercising and stimulating their brain! When learning music, one must use a multiple set of skills, often simultaneously. This practice is exciting, fun, rewarding, and will enhance a child's learning experience in all academic areas! That is why I like to include all aspects of music in my general music class. The more varieties of musical tools, the more children that will fall in love with music!
I believe that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is my desire as a educator to help students meet their fullest potential in these areas by providing a musical environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, invites a sharing of self expression, and of course is fun and exciting! There are three elements that I believe are a MUST to establishing a successful classroom (1) The teacher must have passion (2) the children must feel safe, respected, and liked, so they may freely express themselves (3) to have as much fun as humanly possible!
For myself, music teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth. I could only hope as an educator to instill a love and passion for music in my students, as I share my own passion for music with them. Children are a mirror reflection of whatever the teacher projects. If the teacher cares about the children, feels passion for the subject, and loves her job, the kids will love the teacher, feel passion for the subject, and enjoy learning in school!
Famous quote of the day:
“To be a great musician, you must have the spirit of a gypsy and the discipline of a soldier.” Beethoven
